SSR 2013 R2 Recovery Disk Creation Problems

I need a solution

I've just downloaded and installed the trial version of SSR 2013 R2 on my Dell XPS-8700 which is running Windows 8.1 and is FULLY up to date.

As soon as run the recovery disk creator, I get a message that says:

There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive F:

I don't have a drive F: My DVD drive is set as G:

It then goes on to try accessing drives L: M: and N:, none of which exist!!!

So I thought I would bypass that step for the moment hoping that I would get the option to select the correct drive later in the process.

The next step is to select a Typical or Advanced recovery disk.

I selected Typical (default) and then got this message:

You are not creating the Symantec System Recovery Disk on the latest operating systems (Windows 8.1 Update/Windows Server 2012 R2 Update)

that are supported by the product. You can use this recovery disk to restore only Windows 8/2012 Server and earlier.

But I AM creating the SSRD on the latest operating system!!!

Any ideas please?

Incremental backup will NOT increment -- Always full backup.

I need a solution

I need a solution Win 7-64 SSR 2013 11.0.2.49853 up to date.

I have an internal HD that I have a backup job to a FOLDER on drive "N". I am attempting to run incremental backup of an external USB drive to a different folder also on drive N.  I can not get the incremental back up to increment.  I ALWAYS get a new full backup set. The full-incremental backup is been indexed by one such as -002.v2i and -003.v2i each time.

Is the reason:

I am backing up from an external USB drive.  SSR does not write the VtrackDiskController or the .VTrack folder to the external disk.

Or is the problem that I am trying to use folders not partitions on the HD I store the backup.

bpstart_notify not running script command

I need a solution

Hi all,

I have a bpstart_notify.policyname.bat script that i want to use to carry out my script commands and mount my drive to be backed up when the policy starts. My script is something like this:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

::Open a putty session and execute the command.

plink -ssh -l user1 -pw password -m c:/myscriptlocation/myscript.txt

::mount my drive

mountvol f: \\?\volumename\

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When I run this script on the command prompt manually, it executes perfectly. But when i run the policy and let nbu run the script automatically, it doesn't seem to work properly. Namely, the first command (plink) doesn't happen, and the next command, mountvol runs.

Seeing that the mountvol command was executed suggests that NBU did indeed execute the script, but i'm unsure of why it was not able to run my plink command.

Any ideas on what the problem might be?

I need a solution

Hello,

I have 3 HP Servers:

1. With Windows Server 2008 + Active Directory

2. With Windows Server 2008 + Microsoft Exchange

3. With Windows Server 2008 + Backup Exec 2014 Server

And 15 desktops and laptops with Windows 7.

Where am I supposed to install DLO? I tried to install it in the dedicated Backup Exec Server (3) but I got an error message of domain account or something like that.

Thanks.

Unable to see file to restore

I am trying to restore a file from Dec 29 2013 tape.  I ran catalog, and can see the data set.  But when I browse for the file I need to restore, I only get to the drive level.  Then it shows "none" for folder side on the screen.  The storage side shows this data set as 271 GB.   I did make sure I have the date range set correctly. It does show an "alert" flag on the folder icon, but doesn't tell me what I need to do. Suggestions?

Storage Unit/Groups Question

I need a solution

We have a Red Hat Linux media server that has 16TB of disk storage. Currently the disk storage is configured in 2 8TB storage units. Each of the 8TB volume are configured with 3 storage groups (2.7TB each)  to create the 8TB logical volume.

My question is should we use the storage as 2 8TB storage units or should I split the volumes into 3 2.7B volumes and group them in NetBackup as a storage group?

Sharing Puredisk Dedupe Storage Slows down server

Hi

Environment:

BackupExec 2014 SP1 Installed

2xWindows 2008 R2 SP1 Server Located at Site A+B

2xBUE Puredisk Storage Location on Local drive D on Site A and B respectively

2xDell Tape Libriaries.

How to replicate Issue:

Share Site A's BUE Puredisk storage with Site B.

Only Site A's Backup Run slowly. Site B that's shared with site A's BUE Puredisk Backups Run Fine.

Description:

We have a BUE Deduplication environment with 2 Tape Libriaries[3 version one site has 2 virtual libriaries].

As soon as we 'Share' the Deduplication Storage on the one site to the other in order to do replication beween the sites. The Storage slows down tremendously and the Backup Jobs start going into Queue'd states. The Moment we remove it backups run quick again.

Another observation is that the Storage Discovery Process under Media seems to keep running/hang most of the time.

Has anybody encountered something like this before? Will upload adamm log in a moment.

What we've done to date:

I've seen some other forum posts that say to update the Tape Libriary drivers. We've installed the latest available from Dell today. We're still experiancing the same issue.

Hallo,

Backup Exec 11d Remote Agent on Windows Server 2012

I need a solution

hi

currently we are using Backup Exec 11d and make a backup of a Windows 2003 Server.
For this we are using the Backup Exec 11d remote agent on the w2k3 server.
The backup includes the w2k3 system and data files.

Now we want to upgrade the server from 2003 to windows 2012 r2 (64 bit).

Will the Backup Exec 11d remote agent run on the new windows 2012 server?
If not, is it still possible to backup the 2012 server without the remote agent?
Special features and backup of some server system stuff is not so important.
It would be sufficent if the backup of the pure data files would work. Is that possible
without the remote agent?

BackupExec Error V-79-57344-33039 and Exchange Backups

I need a solution

Ok so the more important issue first.

We have two HP storage works devices (HP1 and HP2) for tape drives with two sets of tape pools (Aug14 and Jan13).

Pool 1 has two tape drives that are rotated on a daily cycle and are written on HP2, this is the AUG14 pair.

Pool 2 has 10 tapes to do incremental backups and a full weekly backup on a friday, on a two week cycle, so Monday 1 to Friday 2. These are written using HP1.

The problem is with the Fridays Full backup. The weekly incrementals (Monday - Thursday) work fine, but for some reason the Full weekly back keeps getting cancelled with the error:

v-79-57344-33039 - Error - Mount Failed.

User Canceled a Physical Volume Library Operation

And when I go to swap the tapes over I notice the tape has been ejected (auto eject is disabled). And it seems the job runs for just over 2 hours and then cancels.

The second issue is that although both backups 'work' and data is backed up. They keep giving a 'failed' status with the error: V-79-57344-33928.

Any ideas on this would be very helpful =)

Error received from media manager layer

Hello,

We recently had a case open with Symantec about the error that I am pasting below. It was thought to be ghost tape drives at the time which we fixed. We had 3 more failures come out this weekend, and was wondering if anyone else has had this issue prior?

We recently upgraded from LTO-4 to LTO-6.

We within the last few months have gone from 7.1.0.4 to 7.6.0.3.

We have added (2) new media servers to our environment to bring us up to (4).

Any advice or hints would be welcome.

Hello All,

We are currently facing challenges in uninstalling Symantec Backup Exec 12 for Windows servers on Windows server 2003. is there a tool available like Cleanwipe for SEP to remove SBE completely?

When tryin to remove from add/remove programs, it proceeds for some time and rolls back. No error message or any other information which might be causing it so I am not sure what caused it.

Any help will be appreciated.

Backing up Across 2 Domains Fails with Error: Unable to Establish Trust (BE 2014 on Windows Server 2012)

I need a solution

Hi,

I have a BE 2014 server on a WINDOWS Server 2012 standard in domain1. It is trying to backup a WINDOWS Server 2012 domain controller in domain2 but is getting the error:

Trust Error.jpg

I have an existing BE logon account for domain1 that does not have any issues backing up any server or DC in domain1

I have created another BE logon account for domain2 that has the same properties and memberships as that in domain1, but with the scope being domain2 (domain admin membership, etc).

I can use the logon to browse the $ shares of both servers either way.

I have changed the time and date settings on the target DC in domain2..

I have reinstalled the agent using push install and also manual install on the target DC in domain2.

When I go to the BE agent on the target server in domain2 and try to manually add the IP or hostname of teh BE server in domain1, I get the same trust error.

I added another non-DC server in domain2 to the BE Server in domain1 and had no issues establishing trust and creating backup jobs. I used the BE Logon for domain2.

As always, any help will be very appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Backup beyond Small Business Server

I need a solution

Hi forum,

I've read for days now, but don't get the idea how backup is done in times beyond MS SBS, i.e. in times of virtualization. Many comments describe environments, where an extra server for backup purposes exist or a NAS or something like that. But the typical SMB scenario is: No separate room for server, server tower includes tape drive and is located somewhere in the office, often beneath a desk. No room and money for additional server or NAS hardware.

Up to now we used SBS 2003/2008/2011, and now we're forced to aggregate SBS components within one Hyper-V host and two VMs (one for Exchange Server, one for DC, user data and all the rest), still only on one single machine.

Formerly we usually backed up our SBS onto internal LTO tape drive, doing full backup on Fridays and differential or incremental backups on the other days of week. For disaster recovery we used separate programs, specialized in imaging, because DR option of BE and others usually did not work and we nearly never had to restore the whole computer (at least I never did) and because solid imaging software is for free. Restoring files, folders or e-mail items was, on the other hand, a daily job, which our customers expect to be executed within minutes. We only needed to change the tape once a day, had multiple backup generations and were even able to restore files or e-mails, that where deleted months ago.

What we need now is:

1. Periodically fullbackup of host and both VMs, so that the whole system or a single VM can be restored to a running state
2. File- and e-mail tape backups from inside of the VM, truncation of e-mail log files
3. Schedule these weekly full and daily incremental backupsk - as formerly
4. Restore of single files or E-Mail-Items from tape within minutes and without any downtime - as formerly

Where can BE help and how? As far as I see BE comes into consideration for No. 2 - 4. No. 1 could or should be done by a simple copy action or by imaging software. Since this is done not that often, it could be done manually and images can be stored on any USB drive. But what to do with No. 2 - 4? Remember: No extra backup server, only internal tape drive, no way to install any software onto the host (as everybody strongly recommends).

Does someone feel like sharing his or her experience?

Thanks and regards,
Stefano
