I need a solution

I have been tasked with porting a backup using harware array split of a SAP database from Solaris to Linux and I know the theory of how it all works, but very little about the actual config files you have to setup for it to work.

The Linux media server is setup (7.5.06) and the NBU client has been installed on the host and the process as I understand is NBU master kicks off the following:

  1. On client DB is quiesed 
  2. On Media the storage is split off
  3. On client DB is unquiesed
  4. On Media, do the backup
  5. On media resync the storage

The backup policy on Solaris has Policy Type "SAP" and script in the "backup selections" which looks as though it does all/some of the above

So the script in the "backup selections" sets some environment variables and runs:

 brbackup -u / -c -d util_file -t online_split -m all

So my questions are:

  1. Does the above brbackup do all of the 5 steps above or are scripts called before and after brbackup so the brbackup is only doing step 2
  2. Somewhere along the line a script called "/usr/local/bin/sap/split.sh" is called (for step 2) which is passed args like diskgroup.  How does brbackup know to call this script with the required args - I assume there is some config file somewhere
  3. Likewise, somewhere along the line a script called "/usr/local/bin/sap/resync.sh" is called (step 4) which is passed args like diskgroup - where is this configured.

Exchange 2010 dag backup running slow

HI,

            1)Exchange server details

            windows server 2008 R2 enterprise edition service pack1

             Exchange 2010 build no 14.03.0195.001

              Netbackup version 7.5.0.7

              2) My exchange server backup  is running very slow . Last week they ugraded the exchange patch and now backup is running at at the speed of 400 kb\s. earlier it was 10000kb\s on an average

DLO admin using internet!!!

We got normal setup of 300 users with DLO 7.6 and mix of Windows XP, 7 and vista

Recently we got alert from network team about DLOADMIN trying to access internet from one of user. and this repeated for another few set of users where DLO is installed.

I was pretty sure it ISN'T DLOADMIN but the actual user who is accessing internet but FIREWALL gets DLOADMIN as user.

We checked DLOADMIN was not set as service acount for DLO agent and if DLOADMIN is blocked on FIREWALL actual user is affected. (Quite surprising issue isn't it)

Any idea what could be wrong here how to get DLOADMIN out of this here.

Active Directory does reports kerberose auth successful events for DLOADMIN from same affected system on same time of internet access logged by firewall.

Hello - I hope someone can help

We are using NetBackup 7.6.0.1 on Windows

We are moving our deduplication to other disks for better performance. We have two disk pools, all the images have been duplicated to tape. I have followed this technote:

and have got to the point to delete the disk pools. One disk pool was deleted without any issues however the second reports the following

"unable to delete the disk pool. Unable to process request because the server resources are busy. Disk pool cannot be deleted because Disk Volume (PureDiskVolume) contains images"

All images have been expired from the catalogue

I have run the gargage collection using the following technote

And I have found many orphand images

How can I remove these? - we nolonger need this storage we just want to remove this disk pool please!

5230 Appliance save changes to smb.conf

I need a solution

Symantec 5230 appliance running 2.6.0.3

Can anyone provide instructions on how to edit and save the changes to the /etc/samba/smb.conf file.

I need to copy the DataCollect.zip file to my laptop to send on to Symantec, though I'm unable to do this as I receive an access denied message when pasting the file onto my laptop, I've seent tech note 222263, which says the smb.conf needs the wide links setting to yes.

I can edit the file with vi once in maintenance mode and elevated, but I'm unable to save the file in order to restart the samba daemon. When trying to save the file I receive

E505: "/etc/samba/smb.conf" is read only (add ! to override)

So trying the vi command ":w!" produces

"/etc/samba/smb.conf" E212: Can't open file for writing
Press ENTER or type command to continue

Any advice???

Exchange backup is interrupted by error

There are BE 2012 and SBS server which includes Exchange 2007 in our production network and according to a schedule full backup of mail database should be done twice every week. Usually everything is ok, however, sometimes, backup process is interrupted by error and since the moment when such error occurred backup cannot be done any more because all following jobs finish with this error. Only one thing can help which is restarting Exchange service called "store.exe". After restarting backups can be done successfully again. This is information about error:

Final error: 0xe0001904 - A failure occurred querying the Writer status.  Writer Name: Exchange Server, Writer ID: {76FE1AC4-15F7-4BCD-987E-8E1ACB462FB7}, Last error: The VSS Writer failed, but the operation can be retried (0x800423f3), State: Failed during prepare snapshot operation (8).

Catalog: search possibilities for old images or non-existing clients

Hi,

I was trying to search for images related to a client which is no longer backed up (policy and client are still in NBU). When searching using client (admin console GUI), I found some images ranging from 2006 - 2009 (10yr retention policy). I also noticed that the images were from two different policies and one of them is not in NBU anymore.

Searching using the existing policy brings up images for that client (only one client in policy) using that policy. However, when I try to edit the policy name to the (non-existing) policy and do a search; the result is INF - Status = found no images or media matching the selection criteria.

So my question is: does the policy and client have to be present in NBU to be able to search? The Help says "type a policy name in the box or select one from the scroll-down list" - no indication that the policy/client needs to exist in NBU.

Also, am I correct that partial policy/client names are not allowed in the search?

I need a solution

I have been using Netbackup for years and I just installed Check Point's Identity agent and there appears to be a conflict in ports used. I opened a ticket with Check Point and we installed a special agent and was told to include some services from a registry. I continued to add more services and this is the services:
BPINETD.EXE;BPCD.EXE;PBX_EXCHANGE.EXE;bprd.exe;bpmount.exe;bpcd.exe;bpbrm.exe;bpjobd.exe;bpdbm.exe;bpsched.exe;nbsl.exe;bpcompatd;mtstrmd.exe;nbdisco.exe;bpinetd.exe;vnetd.exe (The ones capitalized are the one's Check Point informed me to exclude)

We noticed in the last netmon capture that the traffic coming from the local server going to remote server traffic would have a high src port and 1556 as the destination. I have checked the firewall logs and no drops are seen and the backup works perfectly without the agent. When we run the backup manually it fails in either error 23 or 58. We see traffic coming to back and forth in netmon, but the communication keeps getting a push ack from the remote server. 

Is there some configuration changes that I need to do to allow this to work?

Netbackup 5230 appliance logical capacity

I'm thinking about getting a 5230 appliance with 40TB config to replace the traditional tapes.   Does anybody know the logical capacity of the appliance?  My weekly full backup size is about 15TB with online retention requirement of at least a month.  The data is the typical stuff (Exchange, SQL, app...etc).  Can this apliance/config support it?   I'll use the replication feature too.  Please share your experiance based on your data size.   

Also,  5230 product line was released in May 2013 - almost two years old.  Does Symantec has new product/update in the near future?  5330 was just announced but it's too big for me, plus it can only be a media server.   Thanks!

Cancatenate the nof3 files gives error

Hi All, While preparing the upgrade of netbackup 7.5 to 7.5.0.7, I have downloaded the client package from the following link: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?pag... However, the first package .1of3 is giving an error while cat the three files "1of3,, 2of3 and 3of3"

# cat "NB_CLT_7.5.0.7_tar-split.1of3""NB_CLT_7.5.0.7_tar-split.2of3""NB_CLT_7.5.0.7_tar-split.3of3"> "NB_CLT_7.5.0.7.tar"

cat: cannot open NB_CLT_7.5.0.7_tar-split.1of3

I tried to cat two of them "2of3 and 3of3" and it worked fine. I want to know if this file as put on the website is really not correct. If so, is there any other place from where I can take the tar file.

I have installed a Netbackup appliance 5230 and configured the maximum size of 75TB as a dedupe pool .. I however just read somehwere the deduplication partition the max size is 64tb

Is this true ? so i guess i need to resize my dedupe pool to 64TB and allocate 10TB as Advance disk ?

Slow file data backups

We are using Symantec NetbackUp 7.6.0.1 in Windows Server 2008 R2 and I have a problem regarding backing up our file data. Our File data is composed of *.pst's, office productivity documents like .xls, .doc, .pps/,ppt, autocad files and images. the current drive used by these files are around 3TB. We do not have snapshot backup license. Network connection between the file server and the master server is excellent as per SAS report. Our file server is running windows server 2012 R2 standard  (hyper-V). it takes more than 18-28 hours to backup to disk and more than 6 hours to duplicate to tape. This is the only exception we have in the backup system (that it takes time to backup and duplicate unlike the others). i soaght the help of Symantec Netbackup technical support team - india and still the issue persist. its more than 3 weeks now since I worked with them. Please help. thanks.

Backup Exec 2014 Rev 1786 - Discovering Devices

REALLY!!

Sometimes it takes 10 minutes other times it can take 6 hours with no change to the setup. Windows device manager shows the library and tape drives without error but Backup Exec can't discover them. What is up with that? I have made sure that there is only one path to the Tape Library. This is a dual 6 core, 60GB ram server and it takes 6 hours to discover the devices. REALLY! Who takes credit for writing this code?

Backup Exec Agent install error 1603

Ok, I have an Exchange 2010 server that was running low on disk space as the logs weren't commiting due to backup failures because the backup exec 2010 agent wasn't working.

I took the opportunity to remove the BE agent using Programs and Features, rebooted the server etc and tried to re-push the agent getting the vague error 1603.

It looks like 1603 is a generic error for 'something went wrong in the install process and I'm rolling back'.

Before I really delved into the log files I followed the following article to remove the BE Agent manually:

Nothing,still 1603.

I also removed SEP and deleted everything related to Symantec (with a snapshot and reg backup), still nothing.

I looked at the log and noticed:

The agent installer thinks there is an existing version of the BE agent installed but it cant remove it so it's bailing out.

OK, more poking about online revealed this article:

Windows installer may be preventing the new agent from going in.

Obviously MS has removed the Windows installer cleanup utility from support so I downloaded the x86 (its a 64 bit server) version from Majorgeeks (I don't like downloading vendor software from non-vendors but as needs must).

The msicuu2.exe installed fine and I ran it from the installed location at C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Installer Clean Up\msicc.exe.

I found the BE agent reference at the end of the list and I removed it. After a minute the entry was gone.

I then re-ran the BE agent push and it went through with no issues!

This was driving me mad and it's now working!

Now there appear to be dozens of issues relating to 1603 and actually I have another on  a SQl server that appears to be related to the agent's failure to install MS Visual C++ installers but that's another story!

Dag Server Connectivity.

Hello Experts,

We have 2 virtual exchange servers 2013 .Node 1 and Node 2. We have configured DAG and DAG virtual's IP is also configured.

Right now our connectivity from Master to DAG is not happening. We were given a link from Symantec. I had gone through to the below link but no hope.

Backup is failing with 26 errors and its not getting connceted with Master. We expericened this error after Cluster failover in Exchange.

I dont remember DAG used to get pinged with master server because i could see no host entry for DAG in our master's host file.

Network people says everything is fine from their side so as Windows team.

Is it prerequisite to connect DAG in virtual?

Pls sugget what might be the issue?
