I need a solution
I have about 10,000 SDLT tapes that my company wants to consolidate onto LTO-5 (our current standard). I still have a 400 tape library to hold batches of SDLT, and a small library for the LTO-5 to dedicate to writes. I have a few questions on how best to do this:
- How can I best come up with groups of tapes to load in a library that I can make sure that spanned sets are complete?
- Since 5 SDLT can fit on one LTO-5 (approx), can I simply copy media, or do I have to duplicate jobs only (have about 50,000 jobs in the history)?
Now, I know this will take a LONG time, and our data retention policies are such that I cannot eliminate tapes from this migration. I just need to get this started and in a fashion I can hand to someone to keep doing. We have used BUEX for the whole time (different versions though), and have catalogs that span the entire retention time.
Any ideas?
