Hi Forum,
Looking for some basic help...
1) If I backup a VMware guest using AVVI - and save to a HP StoreOnce 'catalyst' D2D de-dupe unit, and then duplicate to tape... then will I be able to perform individual file restore to the guest VM from either disk or tape?
2) Would such a restore involve BE first restoring the entire backup job image to a holding area, before it can retrieve specified individual file for restore ? Or can individual file restore simply retrieve the file directly from the backup image on disk within the HP StoreOnce 'catalyst', and/or by direct winding to the correct point on tape? (I'm trying to find out if BE can do what NetBackup can :)
3) I assume that individual file restore requires an 'Agent for Windows' to be installed the guest VM, is this correct ?
4) Does AVVI leverage the 'Data Protection' feature that is included in ESX licences for 'Standard', Enterprise' and 'Entreprise Plus' versions of ESX (the non-essentials versions) ? Or do I need to purchase some other feature of ESX VMware licensing in order to be able to use AVVI ?
Thanks,
Dave.
