I have a BU 2012 install on a 2008 Server that will not update, delete from server or let me add options to the install ( will download SP$ but will not install it). My jobs are still running normally?
Has anyone encounterd this?

I have the backup destinations set to "Automatically optimize storage". The main default drives are fine, but the backup drives are getting full. They are still retaining the old recovery points.
Under Tasks > Manage Backup Destination I can select my default backup destination and my off site destination. My default shows I have recovery points, but when I select the off-site drive it shows no recovery points so I can't set up optimization.
How do off-site drives clean out old recovery points?
The picture ssr2013 attached is the screen I see when the off-site drive is selected. Notice I can't click on settings to change anything.
THe picture ssr2013DefaultDrive is the screen of the default drive setup. I would assume both defualt and off-site drives should be the same in size.

Thye job complete successfully but I guess this suggest something wrong or that could be better.
I use NetBackup 7.6.0.1 on windows 2008R2 platforms (Client and server)
Backup are stored on MSDP STU.

I'm a new to Symantec BackupExec user and I wounder if some one could help me to fix the problem.
I've followed the complete instructions provided by symantec online documentation. The agent was installed correctly on the Linux server( CentOS) and has been added to the media server( Windows 2008 R2). The browser fails as soon as the firewall is turned on the Linux server, I've configured the IPTables between Linux and Media servers to allow all ports but I'm not sure what is causing the problem.

I restarted nbsl on Master Server and OpsCenter processes..but it didn't resolve ...

I am looking for a detailed process on how to set device (Tape drive & Mediaum changer) persistance in Windows 2003/2008 server.
The client I was working with yesterday has the latest greatest backup exec. (2012) and the latest greatest symantec endpoint progection 12.1.4013.
I needed to do a restore of a inetpub folder yesterday.
It would not start would give a communication error pretty quickly.
So I disabled the anti-virus on the target system.
The backup would then start and get going for about 5 min. and come to a stop.
The anti-virus still said disabled but I didn't think that was the case.
Cancelled the job then did a re-enalbe and disable of the anti-virus again and again it would start but get so far and stop.
We then ran clean wipe and uninstalled the anti-virus on the target box and removed AV.
The restore then ran no problem.
So do I need a exception of some kind setup?
Seems weird that I can't do a restore with AV still on ?

I upgraded from BE12.5D to 2012 (fully updated). I have a network share which was setup in 12.5 and the backup was created succesfully. In 2012 the backup keeps cancelling saying the folder is offline. The share was created in 12.5 using the \\server\folder notation and the permissions were set to everyone can read/write. When I try and do an Inventory & Catalog I get the following error:
Inventory Device 00003 -- The job failed with the following error: Physical Volume Library Drive or Robot paused, offline, or disabled.
The KB article doesn't shed any light on the problem. The folder is listed as "online" in 2012 even when the job starts.
I'm attempting to use Seagate USB 4TB drives for B2D with Backup Exec 2010 on Windows Server 2008 R2. The original backups failed with VSS errors even when the 4TB drive wasn't being used (just plugging it in caused long time working jobs to fail). I haven't found a tool to reformat to NTFS 512byte yet so I tried exFat format of 512byte. This worked but the B2D files are created 2gb in size instead of the 100gb size I've selected (I'm assuming this is due to the exFat choice). Any resolutions with this hardware / software combination?

I have had NBU set up that uses AIR from site A to site C and site B to site C. These are all 5230 appliances. Site A to C works fine (5 appliances). Site B to C seems (2 appliances our of 5) seem to have stopped working since site C was rebooted. This happened after a a FW update to the RAID controller. The trouble is, all 5 appliances at site C had the same FW update. I cant seem to figure it out. All other local backups work fine.
DNS name resolution works fine. I check for the relevant FW ports and they all work fine. So MSDP to MSDP on port spad/10102 and spoold/10082 works OK. I test this by using telnet from site B to C. SLP names are identical on both sides. The jobs seem to start and look as if theyre progressing but then just hang with no error messages as of yet. I have seen various posts regarding this but no clear solution. They hang in that state for ages. Other appliances replicate from site B to site C fine, so the network link is OK.
Does anyone know why this would happen or seen this before? Im thinking there may be some form of .lock file or previous replications that died in messy way. I have tried using nbstutil cancel to clear jobs, then deleted SLPs and the remote target, rebooted both source and target and reconfigured everything to no avail.
Im now stumped.
We have a license for deduplication. We have set it up, but I can't find any helpful information for what to do afterwards. Do I schedule jobs to the folder or do I leave it alone? How does the deduplication folder work? Thanks

I have Backup Exec installed on Windows Server 2008 and it refuses to uninstall.
The uninstall rolls back when nearing completion.
To note, we tried to install Backup Exec 2012 on the same server which failed, so we decided to uninstall 12.5 and then try agian.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Of late we are experiencing this issue on number of our WIndows 2k3 and 2k8 servers where the Netbackup services just go hung and do not start . when we try to start them manually, error like failed to start the dependency and the services do not start started in timely fashion occurs. Also on many servers bpclntcmd.exe multiple processes could be seen running.
We try to kill them manually but that wont work.
We have McAfee shiled 8.8 running on the servers and have the nbu processes excluded from the scan.
Any goood resolution apart from upgrade or reboot. We have to reboot the server for getting the backups running but we cannot do this everytime since these are prod servers.
All the server are at NBU 7.1.0.2 including master/media(linux machines)
PS- 7.6 upgrade project is in place and will upgrade severs in few month time.
We are running Netbackup 7.6.0.1 on OEL 5.8 and using Oracle Intelligent Policies to backup mostly Oracle 11.2.0.4 and .3
I want to create an instance group to put in the database credentials for a group. We are using Database authentication as well as an RMAN catalog.
When I create a new instance group and select Oracle authentication it asks for username, password as well as the Net service name (TNS alias). Which is a little bit of an issue since each database instance has a different tns alias.
Does this mean I can't use instance groups if we are using Oracle authentication? If I don't fill in the net service name it fails on validation with an error "rman catalog credentials could not be validated". Putting a netservice name in, and the validation is successfull (without touching the rman credentials)

We have a customer who is having 20 CCTV cameras.
So the daily data generated by the CCTV cameras (.avi file) is 300 GB.
It is storing it in Network Video Recorder right now.
They also have a tape drive which is connected to a server and is stand alone.
So they want us to take backup of this huge data on to a tape drive.
Also they want to compress this data by Backup Exec or any other method if it is possible

This may be simple for a seasoned professional, basically we have a Mac OS X server running 10.8.5 with a Backup Exec Agent installed (was comissioned by an engineer with agent VRTSRalus 13.05204). The problem I am experiencing is now when I try to upgrade the agent I receive the following error:
'This patch only applies to RALUS/RAWS shipped with Backup Exec 2012 ...exiting'
I'm following Symantec article TECH179999 when I receive these errors and can only assume I need to remove the previous Agent as the current agent I'm trying to upgrade to is 'ralus1798'.
I may be totally wrong as I have had little to do with Mac OS X and backup Exec Agents.
Any help on this matter would be grately appreciated.
