Catalogs and repercussions

I am using BExec 2010.

Many jobs fail and the fix oftentimes is to cereate a new catalog folder.

Question:

What is/are the repercussions of creating a new catalog folder.  Different posts seem to provide conflicting answers.

- Should I copy all my catalogs into the new folder? But if I do, dsn't that negate the purpose of creating a new folder? Morover, if I do not copy old catalogs over, thenI lose the ability to retore data without re-catalogging yet once again.

- Are there other caveats in creating new catalog folder locations?
