Hi,
I am setting up Backup Exec 2012 jobs and have noticed this option is the default as opposed to the Archive bit which I am used to:
Looking this up on the Administrator's guide and online it appears that this option was initially created for Unix type clients which do not have an Archive bit facility.
However I have also read that on Microsoft Windows based clients this option invokes the the use of USN journals to find the files that have changed which is faster than simply scanning through all the files on the machine looking for those where the Archive bit is set...
There is a rather large note in both the Administrator's guide and therelated Symantec KB areas which mentions that copying or moving a file does not change its modified time or timestamp and therefore this copy or move will cause the file to not be included in a differential or incremental backup...
What I am wondering about this is does this note apply to both Windows (Which is using the USN to determine changes) and Unix based systems (Just using timestamps) or just the Unix based ones...
Thanks
